Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD)
FSSD is a unifying framework that offers a strategic approach to analyze, plan and make decisions within the socio-ecological system’s boundaries.
The development of the framework, led by The Natural Step, was based on a consensus process to create a shared definition for sustainability by identifying the minimum requirements needed to reach a sustainable society. The FSSD provides a systematic perspective at any scale, and has been applied in various contexts for the past 25 years.
Sustainable Design Thinking (SDT)
SDT is a tool for sustainable innovation that integrates a product/service development process according to the Design Thinking approach along with the FSSD.
The tool was developed by Hila Shapira, Ada Ketchie and Meret Nehe, and was published in the Journal of Cleaner Production.
This tool is useful for problem solving and allows for creative analysis, taking a human centred perspective on people’s needs.
